The course confronts students with advanced work in problem analysis, definition, solution and evaluation leading to the development of individual ability to make informed design, and judgements against set parameters. Attention is focused on the applications of graphic design where the primary aim and purpose is to achieve clear communication with information accessible and easier to comprehend. Throughout, particular attention will be drawn to semantics - meaning in language and connotations of words or images - and semiotics - signs, words or images - in communicating information clearly with target audiences. Students will be encouraged to build on their previous course experiences as a conscious act and thus begin to identify and quantify their personal viewpoints, beliefs, design aesthetics and growing technical knowledge. Students will be introduced to a series of weekly lectures with the following topics: a. The communication process, b. Seimiology, c. Proposal, d. Research techniques, e. Interviewing, f.
